Like it or not, technology has become a way of life.  Unfortunately it is easy to become too attached to your phone or screen device.

As a full time mom and blogger, I am guilty of spending plenty of time with my face buried in my phone checking emails or social media during the day.  Some days I am just mindlessly scrolling through Facebook or Pinterest.  My husband likes to flip the phone out of my hands whenever he catches me zoning out.  It is so easy to become disconnected from the ones around you when you have a digital device easily accessible.

Everyone in our house has a phone or digital device.  If we aren’t careful, those devices come on way too many times throughout the day.  Limiting screen time has become necessary and needed so we can catch up with each other. [Read more...]

Thank you to Chocoley for providing me the opportunity to create a fun chocolate treat.  These Amaretto Pecan Cookie Dough Truffles are a delicious, but dangerous treat to have around.  They taste amazing.  Good luck only eating one at a time!

Amaretto Pecan Cookie Dough Truffles - no egg pecan cookie dough truffles that taste amazing when dipped in amaretto dark chocolate

My in laws live near an outlet candy store, so any time they come visit us or we visit them, they have bags and bags of candy and nuts.  One of my absolute favorites that they buy are some dark chocolate amaretto pecans.  I seriously could eat an entire bag of them and not feel guilty at all.  So delicious!

It’s true your tastes change as you get older.  Growing up I did not like to eat nuts of any kind.  My way of eating nuts was a peanut butter and fluff sandwich.  Slowly as I got older, I started to like peanuts with M&M’s.  Gradually I started to branch out and try new nuts.  Now I actually eat a few kinds of nuts all by themselves.

Of course, I still prefer the nuts with lots of chocolate.   [Read more...]

We just finished up signing our youngest up for soccer and baseball, and our daughter is looking at running track and also has a volleyball camp in a few weeks.  That means meal time is about to become interesting in our house.

Track practice is right after school until dinner time.  Soccer and baseball usually starts right after dinner.  That means dinner needs to be fast and easy, so that everyone can enjoy a hot meal before heading to the next activity.    With Spring quickly coming and practices going on the calendar, I am on the look out for new and easy dinner ideas for our family.  [Read more...]

Something that I have been wanting to do again with my kids is a tea party.  But since they really don’t like tea, we have to call it a hot chocolate party.

With all the snow that we have been having lately, hot chocolate is a staple around here.  The kids go out in the snow and play…I stay inside and make sure the mugs and marshmallows are ready for when they need to get warmed up.   [Read more...]

This time of year starts to get a little busy.  With shopping, decorating the house, making and sending cards, going to programs, and spending time with family, I am not sure how I will get all my baking and treats finished.  And this girl, needs her sugar treats.  Well, I guess I don’t need them, but I sure am much happier when I have them.

And when I am running around like a crazy woman trying to finish all my holiday projects, at least I can be full of sugar and happy.   [Read more...]

This time of year I just can’t resist the urge to buy all the fun seasonal candies and cookies that the stores have out on display.  They really know how to market those items to shoppers.  Put it out in front of the store or in the checkout aisles where I am sure to see it, and you can bet it will end up in my cart.

Now to resist eating it when it sits on my kitchen counter for weeks at a time.  I have had these gingerbread cookies and M&M’s in my kitchen for a few weeks now, just waiting for the right inspiration to use them in.  I kept looking at them and trying to decide what they would work in best, but then I would just go back to my peppermint obsession and make things like these Oreo Peppermint Crunch Cookies.   [Read more...]

White Chocolate Peppermint Mousse Cheesecakes - 3 layers of cheesecake for your holiday enjoyment

I realized that the holidays are still a little ways off, but I have been busy thinking of new holiday treats to try out for this year.

With my entire being completely enamored with peppermint right now, I have been including it into everything I bake.  Cookies, truffles, and now cheesecake.  Nothing is safe in my kitchen from this peppermint craze.  I sure hope you are all stocked up on peppermint chips and baking ingredients.  My list might end up being pretty long.  Maybe I should just get those fat pants out now… [Read more...]

Can I just tell you that I have the coolest job ever?  It might seem a little strange to you.  I mean I do start busting out the pumpkin in early August, start on the peppermint by October, and then I’m ready for coconut in January.

Oh, and I get to go visit cow farms and see how cheese is made.  Definitely a strange job!  But I seriously love every minute of it.

A few weeks ago I joined a team from the American Dairy Association Mideast in Cleveland, Ohio for a whirlwind trip of farms, food, and fun.  The first night we had dinner at The Lakehouse Inn & Winery on Geneva-on-the-Lake where we learned how to pair the right wine with different cheeses from Marianne Frantz, the founder of American Wine School.

I hope you are ready for some pictures…you are going on the virtual tour with me now.   [Read more...]

Apple Cranberry Turkey Salad - use your holiday leftovers to enjoy this delicious turkey salad on King's Hawaiian Rolls

This time of year is really my favorite. The cool weather, the changing leaves, the bonfires, s’mores, and of course all the food from the holidays. Make sure you do not blink in the next few days because the holidays will be here and over if you do.

I look forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas probably the most out of any holiday. There is always plenty of good food to eat, and family and friends to spend those days with. We do not go hungry on holidays. Everyone helps out and brings their favorite dishes to share. Snacking on appetizers goes on almost all day. And of course the dessert trays are never overlooked. Everyone usually samples one or more off that tray right away.   [Read more...]

I don’t know about you but I am almost all pumpkin-ed out this year!

(Covers mouth with an aghast look!)

Did I seriously just type that?!?!   I did say almost!!!  I love all things pumpkin and can never wait to start baking with it each fall.  Maybe I started too early this year because for some odd reason, I just am kind of over it.  (hanging head in shame)

I even found myself day dreaming about mint cookies yesterday!   That can’t be possible.  That just means when Christmas gets here I will be ready for coconut and beach weather.  I’m seeing a seriously bad trend happening to me this year.   [Read more...]
