I am partnering with Callie’s Biscuits to bring you this fun dessert idea. Maple Pear Shortcakes are a delicious and semi homemade dessert that you can serve after any meal. Or serve it for breakfast…you won’t find me objecting!
I don’t know about you but I am almost all pumpkin-ed out this year!

Did I seriously just type that?!?! I did say almost!!! I love all things pumpkin and can never wait to start baking with it each fall. Maybe I started too early this year because for some odd reason, I just am kind of over it. (hanging head in shame)
I even found myself day dreaming about chocolate mint cookies yesterday! That can’t be possible. That just means when Christmas gets here I will be ready for coconut and beach weather. I’m seeing a seriously bad trend happening to me this year.
Can you believe that I just admitted to being over pumpkin? Yeah, I can’t believe it either. The funny thing is that I still have a few pumpkin recipes to share with all of you. So, let’s all pretend that this ^^^ conversation never happened. Thank goodness for pears to bring me back to a normal thought process.
Pears!!! That’s it! Let’s talk about pears. They are kind of an over looked fall fruit I feel like.
A few weeks ago, I was asked to try some products from Callie’s Biscuits and to create a new recipe. Carrie Morey has continued the tradition of making biscuits that her mother, Callie, started years ago. These Southern biscuits are still hand made and sold by the dozens in Charleston, South Carolina. If you don’t live locally, you can also order their amazing products online too. I love how easy these products are to reheat in your own kitchen. Remove the packaging and heat in foil. That’s it. No extra prep is needed. I had to try one of the shortcakes fresh from the oven. It literally melted in my mouth. Callie and Carrie know exactly what they are doing in the biscuit business.
I was also able to try some of the biscuits and the pimento cheese along with the short cakes. I thought about show off those delicious shortcakes with this homemade apple pie filling. But I decided to change it up with pears.
Ripe pears boiled with a simple maple syrup and sugar mixture is the perfect fall treat to get you through the long pumpkin months. Definitely do it when you feel the pumpkin funk coming on.
I am now ready to hit it hard again with some more pumpkin goodness…after I go finish off the last few shortcakes. I think I hear them calling my name!
- 5 cups peeled and diced ripe pears
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups water
- pre made shortcakes
- Cool Whip
- chopped walnuts
- Toss the fruit with the lemon juice and set aside. Combine the sugar, syrup, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir in the water. Bring to a boil over high heat, and boil for 2 minutes.
- Add the fruit and bring to a boil again. Lower to medium low heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Cool completely. Refrigerate pie filling to set up.
- Bake or serve the shortcakes according to the package directions. Cut each shortcake in half. Place a spoonful of pie filling on the shortcake. Top with the other half. Add Cool Whip, nuts, and a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired before serving. Makes 4 cups pie filling.
