Chocolate Banana Cake Recipe

This Chocolate Banana Cake is soft and moist, and full of banana flavor. A creamy Nutella frosting adds the perfect touch to the chocolate snack cake. It's so easy to make and will get smiles from all your taste testers.

Ingredients

For the Chocolate Banana Cake

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed ripe banana (3 large)
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

For the Nutella Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • chocolate curls or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugars until creamy. Add the eggs, vanilla, and mashed bananas and beat again.
  3. Stir together the salt, baking soda, cinnamon, flour, and cocoa powder. Slowly add to the butter mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
  4. Spread in a greased 9x13 pan. Bake for 30-32 minutes. Let cool completely.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter, vanilla, salt, and Nutella until creamy. Slowly add the powdered sugar and whipping cream. Beat until light and fluffy.
  6. Spread over the top of the cooled cake. Top with chocolate curls or sprinkles. Store in a tightly sealed container on the counter.
