  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and divided

For the Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°. Spray an 8x8 baking pan with nonstick baking spray or grease it with butter.
  2. Stir together the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and orange zest. Make a "hole" in the center of the ingredients.
  3. Pour the orange juice, buttermilk, and 2 tablespoons melted butter in the center. Use a fork to gently mix until a dough forms.
  4. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead a few times. Use a rolling pin to gently roll the dough into a 10x14 rectangle.
  5. Mix together the sugar, softened butter, and zest. Spread the orange filling over the top of the dough leaving a 1/2 inch border all around.
  6. Roll up from the shortest side. Cut into 9 even rolls. Place in the prepared pan and drizzle with the rest of the melted butter. Bake 22-24 minutes.
  7. Let rolls cool 5-10 minutes. Stir together the glaze ingredients and spread on the rolls.
