Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 - 10 ounce bag of mini marshmallows, divided
  • 4 tablespoons butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup classic M&M's + extra

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13 pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Place 4 cups mini marshmallows and butter in a large pan over low heat. Stir until melted and creamy.
  3. Add the cereal and stir until completely coated. Let cool for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in 1 cup mini marshmallows and M&M's quickly. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan.
  5. Coat your hands with butter or nonstick baking spray and press the mixture down gently. Do not over press the mixture or your treats will be harder and crunchier.
  6. Press a few extra M&Ms into the top of the treats before they cool.
  7. Let the rice krispie treats cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares. Store in a tightly sealed container on the counter.

Notes

  • Place the M&M's in the freezer 10 minutes prior to starting this recipe. This will keep them from softening and melting when you add them to the warm mixture.
  • Spray or butter your dish, so the treats don't stick. You can also line the pan with foil or parchment paper, so they lift out easily.
  • Press the mixture firmly but gently into the pan. Pressing too hard will result in extra hard treats.
  • Let the rice krispie treats cool at least 30 minutes before cutting them into squares. This gives them time to cool and stick together better.
  • Want thicker treats? Use an 8x8 pan for this recipe.
