BruCrew Top Ten

Here we are at Friday again.  I’m telling you now that school is in, and we are busy every night with practices and games, the weeks are flying by.  It has only been 3 weeks since school started, but for some reason it feels like 3 months.  I guess that is good that we have gotten into a routine.  Now if only I could get that meal time dinner schedule going better…any ideas for me are much appreciated.  Now let’s get to the Top 10 things for this week.

1.  First Day of School Pics – yes, it was 3 weeks ago, but nobody saw it then because I’m a slacker and didn’t do it on IG like everyone else….so I’m sharing my cute kiddos here today.  I can’t believe I have a 9th, 6th, and 4th grader already!

2.  Hahahaha!  Bring on all things pumpkin!  I am so ready!!

3.  I broke into the pumpkin last week…and I haven’t looked back yet.  My plan is to eat pumpkin every week for the next 4 months :-)  Salted Caramel Pumpkin Lattes every day!!!

4.  This Salted Caramel Pumpkin Bread is what caused me to begin pumpkin baking in August.  I seriously want that whole loaf for myself!!

 5.  Bailey’s Coffee Creamer…the best way to  make your coffee happy.  I was so excited to receive these three flavors in the mail.  Coffee with a good creamer first thing in the morning helps get me going.  I am slightly partial to the Mudslide.

6.  I am seriously dying over this Pecan Crusted French Toast!  It looks stinking amazing!!!

7.  Two coffee dates in two weeks with two cute kiddos.  Love!

 8.  I love accessories.  I love accessories that are affordable even more.  These necklaces came from Gordmans and each one was only around $10.  Then my daughter and I were shopping at the mall and found these earrings at Icing for $2 a pack.  Even if they only last a few months, it was totally worth it.  Those teal feather ones are my absolute favs right now.

9. Sweet & Salty S’mores…loving this fun idea to make  s’mores with Ritz crackers.

10.  Throwback time!!!  I was looking through some old scrapbooks and found this one of me with the very first pie I ever made.  Baking is just a part of me I guess.  And I am totally loving that my littlest guy looks just like me.  He is definitely my little mini me.

Things I Love – Olay CC Cream Total Effects Moisturizer

Every morning and night I wash my face and apply a moisturizer.  It has been a routine that I have been doing since I was in high school.

About a year ago I started using a BB cream under my normal powder.  I really love the difference it makes in my complexion.  So, I was really excited to hear about the Olay CC Cream Total Effects Moisturizer.  It has tone correcting abilities that create a flawless finish with sunscreen built in.

CC Cream1

One thing that I remember growing up was that my mom always used Olay products.    Moisturizing and taking care of her skin was always a priority.  As I have gotten older, I am thankful for that routine that she instilled in me.  Washing and moisturizing are a daily routine that I follow, and that I am instilling in my daughter now.
CC Cream2

When my box of Olay CC Cream arrived, I was impressed at how pretty the bottle of moisturizer was.  The fun swirl makes me smile every morning when I use it.  I have been using the moisturizer for about 3 weeks and I am very happy with the results.  The cream dries weightless.  I really feel like I am not wearing any thing.  That is a truly a sign of a great product.

DSC_0723-1

So far I really don’t have that many lines that I could say have disappeared or diminished, but I know that the vitamins are keeping my skin youthful looking.

CC Cream3

I love the formula that they use in this product.  AA (anti-aging) + BB (beauty balm) = CC (color and correction)  I chose the fair to light shade, and I like how well it blends into my skin.  The slight tint in the formula gives my skin a small shade of color.  It also leaves a dry, nice finish that I can top with my regular powder.  The long term benefits of using a cream with anti-aging qualities is that it will help reduce those fine lines that will start to show up as I get older.

**********************

Total Effects fights the 7 signs of aging of:
Fine lines and wrinkles: reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven Tone: balances and helps even out tone
Age Spots: reduces appearance of discoloration
Gentle Exfoliation: Improves surface cell turnover
Dryness: provides nourishing moisturization
Moisture Barrier: strengthens skin’s natural defense against moisture loss
Luminosity: recaptures youthful luminosity

Orange Glazed Muffins – Six Sister’s Stuff

It’s off to the beach we go again.
I’ll tell you I really could get used to living so close to the crashing waves.

Although I am really starting to miss my kitchen aid mixer!!!
Maybe I should have packed her in my suitcase?

While we bask in the sun and get toasty brown,
I want you to enjoy these fun girls!!!

I am SO excited to have Six Sister’s Stuff
on my blog today!!!  I just love these girls!
They are so fun and cute and talented and friendly…
ok, I might be totally gushing!!!

Last summer I “met” the Sisters when we both
were contributors for another crafty blog.
Over the last year I have enjoyed keeping in touch with Camille
and seeing their blog sky rocket into blog history!

Hello! We are the sisters from SixSistersStuff and
we are so excited to be on Inside BruCrew Life today!

Today we are going to be sharing with you a delicious muffin recipe
that has an amazing orange glaze on top . . .
we give you: Orange Glazed Muffins.
The glaze is what totally makes these muffins . . . seriously, we couldn’t get enough of it!
These make a great snack or a delicious breakfast!

Orange Glazed Muffins
Ingredients:
For the muffins:
1/2 cup milk
1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (I used 3 large oranges and was able to get about 1 cup)
½ cup sour cream
2 large eggs
2 sticks (16 tbsp.) unsalted butter, melted
3½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1½ tbsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
Zest of 1 orange
For the glaze:
¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice (about the juice of 1 orange)
1½ cups confectioners’ sugar
1-2 tsp. orange zes

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350˚ F.  Line muffin pan (or pans) with paper liners.  In a medium mixing bowl, combine the milk, orange juice, sour cream, eggs and melted butter.  Whisk together to blend.  In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.  Stir to blend.  Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix just until incorporated.  Fold in the orange zest with a spatula.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared muffin cups.  Bake about 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Let cool in the pan 5-10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack placed over a baking sheet.
To make the glaze, combine the orange juice, confectioners’ sugar, and orange zest in a small bowl. Whisk together until smooth, adding more juice if necessary to achieve your preferred consistency. Drizzle the glaze over the muffins while they are still warm.  Allow the glaze to set before serving. Store in an airtight container.

Neapolitan Cake – Life As A Lofthouse

As you are enjoying this absolutely gorgeous cake,
we will be getting our tan on…again:-)
Honestly it could be by the pool or it could be at the beach…
either way, we are having an absolute blast on vacation!

Do you read Holly’s blog Life as a Lofthouse?
I have been following and reading for about a year, I think.
She always shares the best dinners and yummiest desserts.
What I love the most is that they are always super easy to recreate.
I am so happy to have Holly as one of my great blogging friends…
she is a doll and so super sweet!!!
Please make her feel welcome here:-)

I’m Holly from Life as a Lofthouse, and I’m so honored to be guest posting on Inside BruCrew Life today. I adore Jocelyn and her amazingly delicious blog!
Some facts about me: I am a mother to 3 kids, and married 6 years to my best friend. I’ve worked in the medical field for 12 years. I have been at my current job as a surgery scheduler for 5 years and I love it. I also love to cook and bake. It’s my ultimate passion!
I started my food blog almost 2 years ago, and have so much fun doing it. I am all about easy and simple recipes that taste delicious! I am a busy Momma, so I need quick recipes that are family-friendly. That’s what my blog is all about.

Today I’m sharing a fun Neapolitan Cake I made for my daughters birthday. It’s a semi-homemade cake, made from boxed cake mixes with homemade frostings! The best part about it is the fun Rose design.
It looks complicated, but is pretty simple to do. All you need is a 2D cake decorating tip to make those pretty roses. For the tutorial go here: www.iambaker.net

Neapolitan Cake
1 box golden vanilla cake mix
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 box strawberry cake mix
(ingredients needed for each cake mix)
8 inch round cake pans
Buttercream frosting (recipe below)
Strawberry Buttercream frosting (recipe below)
Chocolate Buttercream frosting (recipe below)
2D cake decorating tip
Directions: Make each cake according to package directions for 2- 8 inch round cakes. (You will only need one of the 8 inch cakes for each flavor. You can freeze the second ones for later use!)
Buttercream Frosting
1 cup butter, room temperature
1- 2 pound bag powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
4-6 Tablespoons milk
dash of salt
Directions: Place butter, vanilla and salt into mixer. Add in powdered sugar, one cup at a time, alternating with the milk until you have used it all.
If your frosting seems too thick, you can always add more milk. I used 6 tablespoons of milk and the consistency was perfect for piping the roses.
Strawberry Buttercream
Take half of the buttercream frosting and place in a seperate large bowl. Add 1 teaspoon Strawberry extract and a little bit of pink food coloring. Mix well to combine.
Chocolate Buttercream frosting
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
3 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1 pound powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions: In a large bowl, beat the butter and cream cheese at medium speed until creamy. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, beating at low speed until blended. Increase speed to medium, and slowly add milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
Meanwhile, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 1-1/2 minutes or until melted; stirring at 30 second intervals. Add the melted chocolate to mixture and beat until smooth.
If it seems too thin to pipe with, place in the fridge for a few minutes.
To Assemble Cake:
Place one round chocolate cake onto a cake stand or plate. Spread a thin layer of chocolate buttercream over the top and around sides.
Place one round strawberry cake over the top of chocolate cake. Spread a thin layer of strawberry frosting over the top and carefully around the sides of the strawberry cake only.
Place one round vanilla cake over the top of strawberry cake. Spread a thin layer of buttercream over the top and around sides of the vanilla cake.
To pipe roses: Fill a frosting bag with chocolate buttercream. Using the 2D cake tip, pipe chocolate roses all around the chocolate cake layer only.
Fill another frosting bag with strawberry frosting, and again using the 2D tip, pipe pink roses all the way around the strawberry cake layer, slightly overlapping the chocolate roses.
Fill a 3rd frosting bag with buttercream and pipe white roses all around the side and very top of vanilla cake.
Again, go to www.iambaker.net for her great tutorial!
Enjoy looking and devouring this amazing cake! If there’s any leftovers, cover and store in the refrigerator. :)
