Blackberry Diet Dr. Pepper: Adding blackberry syrup to your favorite drink is refreshing on a hot summer day.
Diet Dr. Pepper has been my favorite drink for the longest time. Yes, I know the diet part of any drink isn't the healthiest for you, but I have made my peace with it.
This particular drink was all I drank while I was pregnant with our youngest. Who knows if that is why he ended up the smallest baby I had. All I know is that I craved Diet Dr. Pepper the entire pregnancy.
And I haven't stopped drinking it. 11 years later it is my choice of pop. I even used it in these Cherry Dr. Pepper Jello Squares earlier this year. What else can I make with it???
Ok, quick question...do you call it pop or soda??? I grew up calling it soda in the East, then I moved to the Midwest and became a pop convert.
This summer I discovered all the syrups at Sonic that you can add to your pop or slushies. For some reason the blackberry stood out to me that first day as I read through the list. One sip of it added to my Diet Dr. Pepper, and I was totally and completely hooked.
So hooked that I did a search online to see where I could buy blackberry syrup for my house. Torani carries so many different flavors of syrups. So, to make it worth the shipping I ordered the blackberry and a few others. I was so impressed with how quickly they showed up at my front door. I have also seen these syrups in World Market and Gordmans if those stores are near you.
I like to pour my syrup in over the ice first, then slowly pour the Dr. Pepper into the glass. But really there is no right or wrong way to do it. Add a few fresh blackberries on top and then go sit in the shade and relax. It's the best way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer.

I grew up in the Midwest and it was always pop. We moved to South Texas when I was in high school and I will never forget the first time a friend asked me if I wanted to go get a Coke. I replied, 'No thank you, I don't drink Coke. I drink Diet Coke or any other diet pop.' Well I learned that day that in South Texas, everything is 'a Coke'. You can want a Dr. Pepper, 7-up, or root beer...it's all a Coke to them. They laughed at my calling it pop and said it was weird. It was one of the MANY cultural shocks and adjustments to work through moving to a region where things were nothing like this midwest girl had grown up with! ๐

Blackberry Dr. Pepper sounds INCREDIBLE. Why did I never think of this combination before?

It just so happens I was wondering what I should do with all my blackberry syrup, and now I know! Thanks. This sounds yummy!

I haven't been to Sonic before, but I'm really tempted to go just to try this! I love Diet Dr. Pepper too, and honestly, with how much sugar we consume as part of recipe testing for our jobs, I think it's perfectly fine to choose a diet soda (yes, I call it soda!) to help counterbalance that. ๐ Looks fabulous as always Jocelyn!

Thanks Amy! ๐

We have the pop/soda debate regularly in our home. ๐ Adding the syrup to soda is interesting. I'll have to try it.

Such a gorgeous-looking drink. Makes me want to immediately plop myself down in a lounge chair and start sipping. We call it soda here in FL. ;-D

Thanks Michele! ๐

Jocelyn, I am such a sucker when it comes to syrups and sodas! My favorite is coconut syrup with a squeeze of lime (in my Diet Coke). I bet this blackberry syrup is so delicious ๐
Jocelyn Brubaker
That sounds delicious! ๐ And yes, it really was SO good!

We used to call it pop.....moved to MI and they call it soda......I would just always say, Coke, Pepsi or Dr. Pepper...etc....that way I was safe ๐
I don't drink any of these now....haven't had a pepsi in 2 yrs.....thanks to Dr. Oz......they are so bad for you.....one day your kidneys will pay......had a cousin, she had to have a kidney removed due to drinking so much of this stuff.....take my word Jocelyn....you are young enough to still save your health ๐ my daughter does not let her daughter (12) drink any dark pop.....she is allowed to only have a rootbeer or orange drink or sprite , but only occasionally......these soft drinks have so much sugar in them, and the diet ones are just as bad.....research it online.....you may change your mind.....I would say one Dr. Pepper occasionally probably won't kill you....but drinking them regularly will eventually ruin your health.....take it from someone who knows......just sayin.....................

What a fun flavor combination!! I am definitely going to try this on my next Sonic run too ๐ And for me it's soda, from CA. I like the term pop better though. I may start using that just so I can be different!
Jocelyn Brubaker
Haha, you're too funny! ๐ Thanks Serene!

I craved and drank Diet Dr. Pepper during my entire first pregnancy, but haven't had any since then... Must be something about those pregnancy hormones:) The addition of blackberry syrup looks super yummy and I think Sam's Club carries Torani syrups.
