Yesterday was one of those days…
add in baking, blogging, photography…the list goes on.
I spend a lot of my time every day around food, yet failed to miss the most important meal.
I know this had nothing to do with the milkshake pictures. I’m sorry!
When I sat down to write something, nothing came to mind.
All I could think about was the bad day,
and how I messed up royally as a wife and mother.
The Lord prompted my heart and it all just came out as I typed.
Thank you for letting me share a little bit of what was truly on my heart.
Now who wants a
peanut butter banana coffee milkshake:-)

Everyone has a bad day now and again! Don’t be too hard on yourself! Don’t discount your awesomeness the rest of the time! Love the milkshakes….they look so yummy and pretty! Have a great weekend! Angie xo
I think it was right around this time two years ago that I started following your blog. I’m pretty sure I’ve loved you from that first post (I want to say it was some cupcake..inspired by a drink?). Anyways, I wanted to say that I felt like you were talking about me when I read this. I’ve had some bad “mean mommy” days this Summer and feel the need to reorganize my priorities. Taking care of yourself is so important but we often put it aside to care for our families and even our blogs. It’s great that you realize what you need to do to be happy again. I hope things get better for you soon! {hugs}

love everything about this post – the colors, the flavors, it’s all..PERFECT!
OK first of all, that milkshake? I want it. And I know how you feel about getting priorities straight… I’ve been having the same issue. Last week I kept thinking “Oh I’ll do my devo this morning.” and then I ended up saying “Maybe tonight.” and you get the point. I could totally tell a difference in my attitude as well. A little God in your life makes a difference:) Have a great day, Jocelyn!
Girl, we live the same life sometimes! You could have been talking about MY day yesterday. Then when you went on to talk about your Bible time, BINGO. I had the SAME revelation yesterday. So bizarre. God is speaking to us for sure. Slow down, focus on what’s REALLY important. I love that you said have some real “breakfast.” It’s so much easier for whatever reason during the school year, to focus and spend time in study. And in the summer I keep making excuses.
No more…
I love how you shared your heart. I have the same struggles with figuring out how to fit everything I need to do into any given day, but I’ve always found that when I spend a little time with God first, I seem to have more time during the rest of the day because everything (inside me) just goes smoother.
This recipe sounds delicious, too! Peanut butter, coffee, and milkshakes…3 of my favorite things. We make frozen banana cream a lot. I wonder if you could use more frozen bananas and skip the ice cream. I feel a kitchen experiment coming soon
We’d love for you to link up at our Finished Friday blog Party.
I hear that….I hate to think of the kids remembering “cranky mom” the most. And I have one of those infernal whistlers right now too….she just learned a few days ago and WON’T. STOP. Driving me crazy!
Thanks for the reminder to take care of what’s most important first.
On a good note, you know the answer to what you’re missing. All the rest will come together once you fulfil this craving. I love the milkshake. By the way, I tried making your banana reese’s cookies, however, they don’t look half as nice as yours. I posted them on my blog today with a link back to yours for anyone looking for the real cookie. (We discovered that using an organic cake mix was the wrong way to make these cookies…)
This is one of the best posts you have written. So very true. We can get into a rut that isn’t so good and God brings us to our senses and we need to regroup our priorities. The important thing is to be willing to do it!! Thanks for sharing your heart. I have never made a milkshake but I’m seeing them all over so might have to break down and do it. This looks like a good one.
It’s funny that devotional time seems the easiest for us to “skip” …. I myself have been guilty. Sometimes I think as moms we’re so worried about everyone and everything else, we often forget about ourselves and our needs. Thank you for sharing your day – It’s so reassuring to know that we’re not alone in “our bad days” … I’m so glad you were able to figure out what you needed
Can’t wait to try the milkshake!
I hear you Jocelyn. That quiet time is gone in summer…and it’s what we need the most! Today will be a better day and know that I’m thinking about you! Love the milkshakes too. Your photos are stunning.
You just combined three favorite flavors! Those shakes look AWESOME!
Quiet time is rare in the summer, and you had a bad day. You’re not a bad person at all, and I’ll bet your kids didn’t think so either. I mean, you make them these awesome milkshakes! They sound so ridiculously good right now!
I definitely need some more quiet time in my days (and a milkshake too!). I’ve made a pb/banana/marshmallow fluff milkshake, and adored it, but the coffee in this one puts it right over the top. Love it!
Those are adorable!! And what a great treat for summertime.
I know how you feel, Jocelyn. Sometimes I feel so weighed down by work, blogging, housecleaning, laundry, just everything–and I have had my fair share of “cranky mom” moments. But a little quiet time to reflect on your faith–and some milkshakes–should work wonders!
We were definitely on the same wavelength today. Gotta love those milkshakes!
We all know how you feel. As a SAHM we all have bad days, where we take our frustration out on our kids and spouse. Some quite time and that milkshake should fix it real quick:)
What an awesome heartfelt post! I love it…thanks for the reminder to keep the Main Thing the Main Thing. =) We all fail…and pick ourselves up by our boot straps and begin again. It does make SO much difference when we spend time with our Lord. I am ALL about smoothies and chilled coffee drinks in the summertime. This looks perfect. I love your wonderful photos too.
I completely had one of “those days” yesterday and a coffee milkshake would have cured my blues. I love this!!
I’m not a religious person, but I know that we all need our “me” time. I left out Me time for far too long and got very cranky and short with my loved ones. Everyone needs the time away to focus on something for themselves before they can share with others.
Those milkshakes look awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Hope your (very yummy looking) milkshake helped you focus and enjoy the day!
with so many flavored coffees on the market yours sounds as if it would be amazingly tasty. Love drinks like this on hot summer days come see what I shared at http://shopannies.blogspot.com
I’ll take one
They look so refreshing…a perfect treat on these hot days!
All of my favorite foods! Yum!
Everyone has these days now and then and it’s O.K
I think this milkshake is great and it’s something I’d loooooooooooove to taste
Who wants a milkshake?!?! ME! ME! ME!!!!! And as far as your “bad day” it actually turned out GOOD because look what you got out of it-something to think and work on. I have me some pretty BAD days too and I think, nothing is a coincidence. The Lord works in mysterious ways! Keep smiling and oh yeah-LOVE your recipes!
YUM! Looks like my kind of milkshake…and I always love your blogs. Thanks for posting on Foodie Friends Friday.

You are so right and I can totally relate. I need to get back on my normal routine as well. I think that’s a great idea to set aside your quiet Bible reading time for first thing in the morning…feeding your heart first thing to start your day. I think I am going to to start doing this as well. And as for the shake…YUM! WANT!
I want a milkshake! Thanks for sharing on Foodie Friends Friday. Please come back again next week with another great recipe!
LOVING all of these flavors Jocelyn!! So sad I missed this on Friday – I was on vacation! I would’ve loved to make these over the weekend! Oh well, maybe next time! I honestly think I may make this or something very similar soon. The coffee + PB + banana…. spot on!
I know how you feel. I joined a summer bible study group to help keep me on track. It helps put my week (and life) in perspective. Love the peanut butter and banana in your milkshake!
beaut-iful photos! These look soooo good right about now! I will be making these!
Delish! Thanks for sharing! We would love to have you link up with our party!

Oh yes, I’m right there with you. My lazy days somehow feel rushed and over filled and I end up stressed by how much I need to accomplished, yet can’t seem to. A moment for reflection seems perfect, as does this milk shake.
Just stopping by to let you know that you will be featured on this week’s Sweet Tooth Friday. Stop by and grab a button.
Jocelyn – Thank you so much for sharing from your heart. I was convicted of not sitting down to nourish my spirit throughout the day as well. Last night I went to church and we watched a video series by Lysa Terkhurst. I felt like God was speaking directly to me. I need to drink in the refreshing word of God. We went on a two week camping vacation and we came home about a week ago. Ever since we arrived back I feel like my world is falling apart. I’m a wedding/portrait photographer and have had a few sessions PLUS two back to back weddings, while trying to unpack and catch up from camping…..that’s not to mention all the day to day things I still need to do to care for my four children and maintain whatever cleanliness is in our home. I finally gave it over to God and told Him “I can’t do this without You; You have to lead me and show me how.” This morning I read Psalms 65. It was an energizing way to start my day; more so than any breakfast could.
May you be blessed for sharing this. I’m glad I found your blog and am now following.
O…and I pinned this recipe and am making it tonight for my kids.
(Yes, it’s 9:30pm but we’re Waaaayyy off our schedule too!)
I’m just waiting for our bananas to finishing freezing. Yum!
Looks amazing! Thank you for posting on Saturday Show and Tell. I hope you’ll be back this week.
