Hoarding fun candies and brownie mixes comes in handy more than you realize.

My son pulled the whole “I need cookies for our class party tomorrow” trick on me.  He does live me, and knows that I bake ALL the time.  I’m sure he thought that a short notice was all I really needed.    Well, these mini brownie cups were on my mind, so he got brownie cups instead of cookies.  Thank goodness I can’t resist adding bags of fun candy to my cart every time I go shopping.

I did use a boxed brownie mix for these.  If you have a tried and true favorite homemade brownie.  Go for it.

Use about a teaspoon of batter for each muffin tin.   Bake about 11 minutes and let cool in the pan for 3-4 minutes before trying to get them out.  Go ahead and press the candy bar in while you are waiting, so it has time to melt into the brownie top slightly.

Biggest help to making these…use a good baking spray that helps release your food from the pans.  I use Pam Baking Spray or Baker’s Joy when I make brownie cups, and they pop out just fine every time.

Another key is letting them cool in the pan.  Do not try to get them out too soon…or you will be munching on brownie crumbs.  Totally not a bad thing, but not what you want I’m sure.  You could also use mini liners if you really wanted too.

Hello, cute little brownie cup.

Why don’t I make more of you more often?  So cute, so delicious, so popable.  It’s a good thing these little guys had to leave the house ASAP.  I couldn’t resist munching on a few.

Now because I used the Hot Cocoa 3 Musketeers candy bars for the hidden center, I had hot cocoa on the brain.  I decorated one little brownie cup and asked my son what he thought.  I may have gotten a blank stare and a big No.  He was already not happy that he was getting brownies instead of cookies.  The extra frou frou on top was not going to happen for his class.  So half of these went to his school boring and plain.

I got to keep the other half at home and make them pretty and adorable.  I recommend the pretty ones!  Something about the Cool Whip, sprinkles, and mini marshmallows makes it 100 times cuter…and more delicious!

Too bad my son’s class missed out on the cuteness, but good for me because I got to munch on little brownie cups all day.

Mini brownie cups have a hidden candy bar surprise in the center for a fun holiday treat.

1 box brownie mix
1 bag Hot Cocoa 3 Musketeers candy bars (10 oz.)
Cool Whip
Mini marshmallow bits

  1. Mix the box brownie mix according to the package directions. Spray a mini muffin tin with non stick spray. (I recommend Pam or Baker's Joy for this) Fill each tin with 1 teaspoon brownie batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 11 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool 2 minutes. Press an unwrapped candy bar into the center of each brownie bite. Let cool another 2 minutes.
  2. Use a sharp knife to loosen the edges of the brownies and pop them out of the tins. Place on a wire rack and let cool completely. Wipe out the muffin tins with a paper towel, and spray again before making another pan.
  3. If desired, top each brownie bite with a little bit of Cool Whip, sprinkles, and mini marshmallow bits. Store in a sealed container on the counter if no Cool Whip has been added. If Cool Whip was added, keep refrigerated. Makes 48 mini brownie bites.

Ive only baked once with 3 Musk and it was a fluffy yellow cupcake and it was years ago. It was so fluffy that it kind of didn’t ‘go’ with the density of the candy bar. You are SO SMART to use brownies and the little bites. So.good. Pinned! I really need like 6 of these, now :)

3 Musketeers used to be my favorite candy when I was little, and I’ve just realized that I can’t even remember the last time I had one! I had no idea there was a hot cocoa version either! These little brownies are adorable. I’ll definitely take some of the whipped cream + sprinkles version. :)

The story about your son is too funny! Sounds just like something my 19-year-old brother would have done when he was younger. Orrrr something he would still do now if he weren’t in college away from home. Haha. These look delicious Jocelyn! Love the idea for brownie cups. And filled with hot cocoa 3
Musketeers? Yes please! My mind is already racing to other combos of brownies and 3 Musketeers and other candies like Reese’s. Yum! Love your idea!

I made these for valentines day for a meeting last night. They turned out good, I couldn’t find the Hot Cocoa 3 musketeers so I used Strawberry flavored. I didn’t want to try to transport them with Cool Whip on them so after i put the candy bars in the brownies, i pushed a valentine lips and heart shaped candies in the candy bar center. I then stuck them in freezer so the chocolate on candy bars would harden back up. I got lots of compliments on them and they were still kinda cute! I also used rolo candies for some of them.
