These cute Peanut Butter Monsters are dipped in green chocolate and decorated with purple sprinkle hair and a big candy eyeball. They're an easy, no bake Halloween treat everyone loves.

For Halloween, I prefer spooky cute things rather than anything too scary or gory! Although I will admit my zombie Halloween eyeballs are pretty creepy! These peanut butter monsters though are 100% cute and kid-friendly.
These are honestly one of my favorite treats to make all year! For the monsters, I started with my classic peanut butter balls and dipped them in bright green chocolate.
I pressed one large candy eye on the front, added a sprinkle of purple jimmies for hair, and ended up with the most adorable little monsters staring back at me. Those googly eyes crack me up every single time!
Why You'll Love These Monster Peanut Butter Balls
- No baking required. Just one bowl, a mixer, and some patience to roll, chill, and dip each ball.
- Soft, fluffy peanut butter centers. Marshmallow cream is my secret ingredient for an extra-soft filling. It's delicious on its own, but even better dipped in chocolate.
- The cutest faces. One big eyeball and purple hair give these little treats so much personality.
- Fun to make with kids. Let your kids add the eyes and hair. It's a fun and easy Halloween activity.
Key Ingredients
You only need a few basic ingredients and some fun decorations to make these cute Halloween monsters. Scroll down to the printable recipe card for the exact amounts.

- Unsalted Butter: Use butter softened to room temperature so it mixes easily into the filling.
- Creamy Peanut Butter: Adds a smooth texture and nutty flavor. Use crunchy if you prefer a little extra crunch.
- Marshmallow Cream: This makes the filling soft and fluffy, so don't leave it out.
- Powdered Sugar: Sweetens the filling and also helps it hold its shape.
- Green Candy Wafers: These give the truffles their bright green color and melt smoothly for easy dipping. You can usually find a variety of colors at craft and hobby stores or Walmart.
- Jimmies: I chose purple sprinkles for a bright contrast to the green chocolate, but you can use any color you like.
- Large Candy Eyeballs: Used to create a silly one-eyed face on each ball. Look for them in the cake decorating aisle at craft stores or larger retailers.
Monster Variations
- Use different colors. Try orange, blue, or purple candy melts for another look.
- Switch up the sprinkles. Use black, orange, or other Halloween sprinkles for different hair styles.
- Add extra eyes. Use several small candy eyeballs instead of one large eye to make silly multi-eyed monsters.
How To Make Peanut Butter Monsters
These cute little peanut butter monster balls are easy to make if you follow our simple steps.

- Make the filling. Beat the softened butter, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl until smooth and creamy. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar until it forms a dough.
- Roll into balls. Scoop and roll the mixture into 30 evenly sized balls. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Melt the candy wafers. Place the green wafers in a bowl and microwave according to the package directions. Stir until smooth.
- Dip the balls. Work with about 10 chilled balls at a time, leaving the rest in the fridge. Dip each ball in the melted candy using a toothpick, then place it on another lined sheet pan. Cover the hole left by the toothpick with extra chocolate.
- Add the monster decorations. While the coating is still wet, press a large candy eyeball onto the front of each ball, then add the sprinkles on top for hair. Let the coating harden completely before serving or storing.

BruCrew Tips
- Roll evenly-sized balls. Use a small cookie scoop to portion the dough out easier.
- Chill before dipping. Refrigerating the balls helps the centers to firm up and makes it easier to dip. I don't recommend freezing them because the frozen centers can cause the candy coating to crack.
- Work in batches. Take only a few out of the fridge at a time to keep them cold. If the centers warm up and soften, they will slide off the toothpicks.
- Decorate while the coating is wet. Add the eyes and hair right after dipping, before the coating sets.
Storage Recommendations
Store the chocolate-covered monsters in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. For longer storage, keep them in the refrigerator for up to a week.
If you live in a hot, humid climate like Florida, I'd store them in the refrigerator right away. These are honestly so good straight from the cold fridge.
These are great to make ahead of time for a Halloween party. Just keep them chilled until you're ready to serve.

If not eaten right away, is it best to keep them stored in the fridge?
Jocelyn says
We usually keep these butter balls in a container on the counter for 1-2 days. If you have leftovers for longer, keep them in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Of course, ours never last more than 24 hours, so good luck with that. 🙂

Just made these with my almost-3-year old daughter and I think it will be a new Halloween time tradition! 🙂 We both had a blast and they came out incredibly cute! We used darker green candy melts and chocolate sprinkles. I ended up getting smaller eye sprinkles so we put anywhere from 1-4 eyes on our monsters. Love this recipe and thank you for sharing!

Where do you buy the eyes?
Jocelyn says
Most craft stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby have a cake decorating aisle and will have them there. I have also seen them a few times at Walmart and Target in the baking aisles.
Mel says
What size bag of candy melts?
Jocelyn says
I believe the Wilton candy melts are a 12 oz bag. You can also use a 10 oz bag of white Ghirardelli melts and add green gel food coloring to get the color you want.
Mel says
I found the jumbo eyes at Hobby Lobby

OMG this looks amazing and can't wait to bake for my kids. My son's fave color is blue, what would you recommend to make the color blue instead of green? Thanks for this amazing recipe!
Kara
Jocelyn says
I used green chocolate melts, so you would just buy and use blue melts. Most craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michaels have a baking aisle with colored chocolate melts that you can choose from. I hope you and your son have fun making and eating these treats.
Jen Rosin says
Question: can I use coconut oil instead of butter for these?
Jocelyn says
I have never tried it that way, but I think it would work if you used a solid coconut oil. Let me know how they turn out for you.

Love these eyeballs, and just know they must be tasty!!! I used the candy eyes on my fancy caramel apples this year, and it gave each one a different personality. FUN!
Wendy says
I don't do Halloween gory, but I love Halloween cute. Unlike your garden black snake, these monsters are adorable! Question: Once these are made do they have to be stored in the refrigerator or can they be stored at room temperature? Thanks!
Jocelyn says
I'm not a huge fan of Halloween gore either, give me the cute stuff all the way. I usually store these at room temperature if they are going to be eaten within a few days. If you want to make them and keep them for longer than 3 days, I would refrigerate them. I hope you enjoy the cute truffles!
Alexandra says
These are so cute! And sound so delicious, especially right now when I am craving something sweet! I am going to Halloween Party next weekend. Think I might make these to bring.
