Monster Dessert
When our daughter was little, she loved Sesame Street. Her favorite characters were Elmo and Cookie Monster. I remember how excited she would get whenever the blue monster shouted, “Me want cookie!” Honestly, I still feel that way most days.
Even though our kids have outgrown these characters, I still want lots of cookies in my life. This Cookie Monster dessert is a fun way to bring back some of that childhood magic.
I had so much fun transforming a simple chocolate chip cookie dessert with blue food coloring, lots of cookies, and funny googly eyes. It turned into an over-the-top treat that’s creamy, blue, and makes kids of all ages smile.

Main Ingredients
To prepare this four-layer striped dessert, you’ll need several items from the grocery store and a few ingredients from your kitchen. The full printable recipe card is below.
- Cookie Dough: For convenience, I used a 16-ounce roll of refrigerated dough. You can totally make it homemade if you like.
- Cream Cheese: Set the full-fat block out ahead of time so it's soft and creamy when you go to mix it.
- Powdered Sugar: When making no-bake cheesecake, I prefer to use soft, powdery sugar to sweeten the mixture.
- Cool Whip: This nondairy topping adds such a sweet and fluffy texture to desserts. You can also make a double batch of this whipped topping recipe.
- Blue Food Coloring: I used a sky blue gel color to tint the layers a bright blue color. Gel colors are easier to use because they do not add extra liquid to your mixture. You can find them in the baking aisle of Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
- Chocolate Pudding: Be sure to buy instant Jell-O pudding so it sets up correctly. If you opt for a cook-and-serve option, this recipe will not work for you.
- Milk: Feel free to use whole or 2% milk.
- Cookies: I used mini Chips Ahoy cookies and mini Oreo cookies to decorate the top of the dessert. You can also chop regular-sized cookies into bite-sized chunks.
- Candy Eyes: You can purchase edible candy eyeballs from the baking section of most stores.
How To Make A Cookie Monster Dessert
This Monster Dessert is so easy to make! Simply layer the ingredients, refrigerate, and enjoy the magic!
Press the chocolate chip cookie dough into the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Bake until golden brown, then cool completely.
Mix the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl until creamy. Then fold in Cool Whip and tint it a bright blue. Spread on the cooled cookie base.
Whisk the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk in a large bowl. Once the pudding mixture has thickened, stir in the Oreo cookie pieces. Gently spread it over the cheesecake.
Add blue gel food coloring to the remaining Cool Whip and gently spread it evenly over the top of the pudding layer. Sprinkle it with chopped mini chocolate chip cookies and Oreo chunks. Add candy eyeballs for a finishing touch.
Storage Recommendations
This dessert keeps well in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Just cover it tightly with plastic wrap and keep it chilled until ready to serve. You can slice it like a cake or scoop it out like a trifle. Either way, it’s messy, fun, and so good.
BruCrew Tips
- Allow the cookie to cool completely before adding the other layers. If it is even slightly warm, it can cause the other layers to melt slightly.
- Use an angled spatula to spread each layer evenly.
- Make this dessert ahead of time so it has plenty of time to set up.
- Use a sharp knife or large spoon, and wipe between slices for cleaner cuts.
- Sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top for an extra layer of chocolate goodness.
- Make it completely no bake by using a cookie pie crust instead of the baked cookie layer.
FAQs
Use gel food coloring for vibrant color without thinning out the Cool Whip. Start with a small amount and mix gently to avoid deflating it.
Yes! It won’t have the signature blue Cookie Monster look, but it’ll still taste amazing.
