Reese’s Owls

Reese's Owls - these cute owl cupcake toppers are perfect for Halloween http://www.insidebrucrewlife.com

My reputation as of late is “the crazy owl lady”!

It is no secret that I absolutely adore owls.
From the many owl necklaces in my jewelry box
to my etsy shop, The Trendy Owl.

If it has an owl on it…I will seriously think about buying it!
(Even now I am considering an owl cover for my phone)

So with “Owl”oween coming up very soon,
(sorry I couldn’t resist)
I really wanted to make a simple owl treat that my kids
could help out with too.
They were more than ready to help me assemble owls…
only because I promised them Reese’s when they were done.

Bribery.

It works every time :-)

I love how the edges of the reeses are ruffled…
makes it look like feathers, right?
Plus, any treat made with Reese’s is an A+ in this household!

Everything on these owls is store bought.
All you have to do is bake the cupcakes…
and those came from a mix too.

See I told you it was easy :-)

Reese's Owls

Prep Time: 45 minutes

Cook Time: 18 minutes

Yield: 24 cupcakes

Reese's Owls

Cute owl cupcake toppers made from Reese's peanut butter cups and Oreo cookies.

Ingredients

1 chocolate cake mix + ingredients from back of box
1 can chocolate frosting
sprinkles
24 Reese's peanut butter cups
48 mini Oreo cookies
48 edible candy eyeballs (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
24 orange chocolate covered sunflower seeds
2 ounces chocolate CandiQuik
24 short lollipop sticks

Instructions

  1. Bake the cupcakes according to the package directions. Cool completely. Frost and top with sprinkles.
  2. Melt the CandiQuik in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir until creamy. Use a sharp knife and cut a small slit in the side of the Reese's peanut butter cup. Dip the end of the lollipop stick in chocolate and very carefully insert the stick into the slit. Be careful to go straight in, or you will have a Reese's cup casualty.
  3. Twist apart the Oreo cookies and use the side with frosting. Attach a candy eye to the frosting using the melted chocolate. Attach the Oreo to the top of the Reese's cup with more chocolate. Dip the back of the sunflower seed in chocolate and attach to the cup. Let set before placing into the top of a cupcake. Makes 24 cupcakes.

Notes

Use a toothpick to spread the melted chocolate on the back of the cookies, eyes, and sunflower seeds.
