Attention popcorn lovers! We've shared white chocolate popcorn and s'mores popcorn, but this homemade Reese's peanut butter cup popcorn is by far my favorite!
Whenever a new product with peanut butter cups hits the market, I can't resist trying it out. The first moment I spotted Reese's popcorn at the store, I immediately purchased a bag. It was absolutely delicious, but I also realized that I could easily recreate this snack at home.
With only a handful of ingredients, you can make a large batch of this delicious treat. Each bite is packed with the flavor of peanut butter thanks to the addition of Reese's Puffs, two types of candies, and chocolate drizzles.

You only need a few ingredients to make this peanut butter popcorn recipe. It comes together in minutes and disappears just as quickly!
Kitchen Tools
Main Ingredients
- Popcorn - Any air-popped or microwave popcorn will work, although we prefer the salted butter variety.
- Reese's Puff Cereal - The sweet cereal adds a fun and delicious crunch.
- Mini Marshmallows -The miniature ones are the perfect size for this treat. If you only have large ones, cut them into smaller pieces with scissors before using them.
- White Chocolate Candy Melts - I like using the Ghirardelli melting wafers because they melt and taste better. You can also use white almond bark or chips instead of the candy coating.
- Candy - Reese's mini peanut butter cups and Reese's Pieces make this the kind of treat that peanut butter lovers will fight over!
- Extra Topping - Melted peanut butter chips and chocolate chips drizzled over the popcorn add an extra peanut butter and chocolate flavor to the snack mix.
How To Make Reese's Popcorn
Gather your ingredients, start the popcorn popper, and let the snacking begin. Your sweet tooth and your friends will thank you for this homemade treat!
- Mix the popcorn, cereal, and marshmallows in a large bowl.
- Melt the white chocolate according to the package directions. Pour over the popcorn mixture and stir until everything is coated.
- Stir in the Reese's peanut butter cups and Reese's Pieces, then dump the mixture onto a wax paper-lined tray.
- Drizzle the top of the popcorn with the melted peanut butter and chocolate chips. Let it set, then break it into chunks!
Storage Recommendations
Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature. It is best if served within 24 hours of making it, but it will keep for 3-4 days.
Tips and Tricks
- Fresh popcorn is key. For the best taste and crunch, pop your popcorn fresh. Use an air popper, stovetop method, or microwave popcorn—whatever floats your boat!
- Remove unpopped seeds. No one wants to break a tooth on your snack mix, so please take out any hard kernels before adding the chocolate.
- Be patient with the chocolate. When melting your white chocolate and peanut butter chips, use low heat and stir frequently to prevent burning. Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to chocolate!
- Load up on candy. Don't be shy when adding Reese's Pieces and peanut butter cups. The more, the merrier! Pack every bite with peanut butter goodness.
- Spread it out. Once you've coated your popcorn mixture with the melted chocolate, spread it evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Store it right. If you somehow manage not to devour the entire batch in one sitting (kudos to you!), store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh and crunchy.
FAQs
Absolutely! Feel free to try out various types of chocolate that suit your personal taste preferences. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate both pair well with peanut butter.
Of course! Get creative with your mix-ins. Chopped nuts, pretzels, or even mini M&Ms are fantastic additions.
Eat chocolate-covered popcorn within a day of preparation for optimal freshness. However, if stored properly in an airtight container, it should stay crunchy and delicious for 3-4 days.

Are you referring to the email that you received with a link to this popcorn? I am sorry to hear you did not care for that type of email. As a business owner, we try different things to see what works for our readers. We did have a lot of readers like the extra links, but it isn't a format that we will be using all the time. It will just be something we use every once in a while.

This looks fabulous! I'm thinking of making to give to teachers, but I'm wondering what size bag of the Reese's cups you used. I've seen them in the stand up bags (8oz) and also in "king size" 2.5oz bags. Please help! Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it was the 8 oz. size bag of the mini unwrapped Reese's that I used. I'm sure your teachers will love this!

Another winner! Just curious - do you use microwave popcorn?
Jocelyn Brubaker
We actually have a whirly pop and pop our own popcorn, but you could definitely use microwave popcorn in this. I just would choose a variety with less butter!
