Trust me, and make this brownie recipe ASAP! It is so fudgy, delicious, and downright sinful!
I found a few box mixes, chocolate chips, and some cookies in our pantry the other day. We love these gooey Butterfinger brownies. So, I decided to tweak the recipe and make an Oreo version for dessert that night.
Gooey bars are always a fun and easy way to transform a brownie mix into a decadent dessert.
Why Make This Gooey Brownie Recipe
These ooey, gooey brownies are the perfect dessert for chocolate lovers.
We took a basic brownie mix and made it even better with Oreo cookies and lots of chocolate chips. These brownies are so gooey and delicious that you won't be able to resist them.
With every bite, you will get a delicious mix of gooey brownie, crunchy cookie, and sweet chocolate. They're the perfect dessert for any occasion and will satisfy any sweet tooth.
Ingredients Needed
All you need are a few simple pantry ingredients to make a pan of gooey brownies for dessert tonight. Make sure to bake them a few hours ahead of time so they can cool and set up.
- Brownie Crust - Mixing together a dry brownie mix, softened butter, one egg, and vanilla extract makes a soft cookie bottom.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk - You will need one full can to drizzle over the crust and toppings. We used chocolate-sweetened condensed milk, but that is not available anymore. You can use a can of regular and stir 2-4 tablespoons of cocoa powder into it.
- Toppings - Oreo cookies, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips give these gooey brownies a sweet flair.
How to Make Ooey Gooey Brownies
Get ready to satisfy your chocolate cravings with brownies. Our easy-to-follow instructions will help you make a pan of gooey brownies in no time at all.
- Line a 9x13 baking pan with foil, then spray it with nonstick baking spray. This will help you remove these gooey Oreo brownies after baking.
- Mix together the dry brownie mix, softened butter, egg, and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
- Press the batter into the prepared pan evenly. Sprinkle the Oreo cookie chunks and a mix of chocolate chips all over the top.
- Drizzle an entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the toppings. This is what will give your brownies that fudgy texture.
- Sprinkle more cookies and chocolate chips on top before baking.
- Bake for 35 minutes and remove. Cool on a wire rack on the counter for a few hours.
Variations
- Add chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds along with the toppings.
- Give the brownies some color by adding rainbow sprinkles on the very top.
- Substitute toffee bits, butterscotch chips, or mint candy bars to give the brownies a different flavor.
Storage Recommendations
Cut the brownies into small squares and place them in an airtight container. They will keep on the counter for 4-5 days if they last that long.
Tips and Tricks
- Do not follow the brownie mix directions on the back of the box! All you need is one stick of butter, one egg, and some vanilla to make a soft dough.
- Keep an eye on the brownies as they bake. You do not want to overbake OR underbake these brownies! They will look gooey and under-done, but trust me, and take them out of the oven.
- Let the pan of brownies cool completely before cutting them into squares!
- Enjoy them plain or top warm squares with homemade cookies and cream ice cream for a decadent, over-the-top dessert.

Recipe
Ooey Gooey Brownies
Ooey Gooey Brownies are the perfect dessert for chocolate lovers. These fudgy brownies are packed with Oreo cookies and chocolate chips.
Ingredients
- 1 - 9x13 dry brownie mix (18.3 ounces)
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk* (see note below)
- 1 ¾ cups Oreo cookie chunks, divided
- ¾ cup chocolate chips, divided
- ¾ cup white chocolate chips, divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°. Line a 9x13 pan with foil and spray it with nonstick baking spray.
- Mix the dry brownie mix, butter, egg, and vanilla until a soft dough forms. Press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Sprinkle 1 ½ cups cookies chunks and ½ cup of each chocolate chip over the dough.
- Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk slowly over everything. Use a knife to smooth it out, and try to cover everything gently.
- Sprinkle the remaining cookies and chips over the top. Bake for 35 minutes. Do not under or overbake these bars. They will be gooey and look underdone when you take them out.
- Let them cool completely before trying to cut into them. They set up as they cool.
Notes
- Do not make the brownie mix according to the package directions.
- To make chocolate-sweetened condensed milk, stir 2-4 tablespoons of cocoa powder into a can of regular sweetened condensed milk.
- Can't find a 13x9 brownie mix? Buy two 8x8 mixes, then weigh out 18.3 ounces of dry mix.

How far in advance would these stay good? Are they freezable?
Jocelyn
These brownies stay soft and delicious for about 4-5 days if stored in a tightly sealed container. You can also freeze them by wrapping each one in plastic wrap and placing in a freezer safe container.
AnneMarie
Please specify what type of brownie mix (with or without chocolate chips) and the weight of the mix. I was reading through your comments and you replied saying it would be fine to use 2 8x8 mixes with DOUBLE the other ingredients, but earlier you said just 1 egg to the whole mix. So fricken confusing! I couldn’t find 9x13 brownie mix.
Jocelyn
I am so sorry about that. The comment you are referring to was posted on the wrong recipe, so that does not apply to this one. I have removed it to eliminate the confusion. The plain 13x9 brownie mixes are 18.3 ounces, so you could buy 2 of the 8x8 brownie mixes and weight out the amount needed to mix in with the egg and butter. Hopefully that helps and you can make the recipe without any issues. Feel free to reach out with any other questions!
AnneMarie
Thank you very much for clarifying 🙂

I'm hoping to make these this weekend. I was only able to get the regular sweetened condensed milk and I saw your comment that it was good to use. Will the brownies come out all chocolate or will some of the condensed milk show? I have a picky grandson.
Jocelyn
The regular condensed milk will have a slightly lighter look than the chocolate. You can stir 2-4 tablespoons cocoa powder into the condensed milk to turn it a chocolate color before drizzling it over the bars. I hope that helps and your grandson likes them.
Ann
Hi Jocelyn. Thank you so much. I'll let you know how they turn out when I make them. My granddaughter (16 years old) introduced me to your website. She made the Fireworks Cookies and Cream cookies for Memorial Day to take to her boyfriend's house. They were a hit. She made and baked them in my place and she didn't even give me one. Thanks again. Have a great weekend.

I made these yesterday and everyone loved them. They're a one bowl recipe with no mixer needed which is a plus for me. I hate bringing out the stand mixer. I'm usually not crazy about brownies but I am now. I even kept some for myself. They're the perfect rich and decadent dessert. Thank you for such a great recipe!!!
Ann
I forgot to mention the most important ingredient for me. I added a little over two tablespoons of cocoa powder to the condensed milk. It kept the grandson happy. Thanks again.

These brownie bars came out great!!! I used non stick aluminum foil and had no issues. A little bit more expensive but it’s worth it. GREAT recipe. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

Can you use regular or Carmel sweet condensed milk? I can't seem to fine the chocolate.
Jocelyn
You can use regular sweetened condensed milk too! I hope you enjoy the bars!
Melissa
You might want to specify the brownie mix size. I bought a 13x9 family size (18.3oz) and it was clearly too much. You must have used the 8x8 size....
Jocelyn
Nope, I used a 9x13 brownie mix. You do not make the brownie mix according to the box directions. It should have been very stiff like cookie dough, then it gets pressed in a very thin layer on the bottom of a 9x13 pan.
Anna
9 x 13 brownie mixes aren't available where I am. Would I use 2 8x8 mixes instead into one 9 x 13 dish, double all the other ingredients?
Jocelyn
You can buy 2 of the 8x8 brownie mixes and weight out 18.3 ounces to use in place of the 13x9 box mix.
Kara
Hi! These look INCREDIBLE! I have a "go to" brownie recipe that I'd like to use. I'm just wondering if it would be okay to use with your recipe...the brownies come out pretty fudgy already. I just wasn't sure how thick your batter is....and if there's anything I should consider before making. Thanks SO much for your help...and all of your awesome recipes. 🙂
Jocelyn
I have only ever used a boxed brownie mix for these bars because you aren't actually making the brownies like the box says. You do not make the brownie batter, instead you just mix the dry mix with butter and an egg to make a crust.
Wendy
I love using mixes as a short cut! These brownies look completely irresistible! I bet your daughter and her friends devoured them! Good luck with your flower beds! Perennial plants are always a bonus in my book (one time planting for years of blooming), and if you have friends with plants that need splitting, the plants can be free! I added a variety of hostas to my shade garden that way! 🙂

Looking at these is pure torture, they look amazing!!

I'm going to be dreaming of these babies. How perfect are they? I'm not even sure if the proper word exists to describe this bliss.

First, I love a good brownie mix recipe. Second, I need one of these NOW! They look incredible!

These brownie bars look unreal! I love ooey gooey desserts that really set in the pan, rather than the oven- that's how you know they're super melty and delicious!
