Chocolate bark is one of the easiest treats to make. We love making different versions for different times of year. Some of our favorites are peanut butter bark, peppermint Oreo bark, and this salted caramel pretzel bark.
Since Easter is just weeks away, I have been picking up a few bags of candy here and there. Peppermint Pattie eggs were one of my latest finds. I thought a swirled chocolate bark topped with the eggs, bright sprinkles, and M&M candies would be fun to make.
Why Make Easter Bark
- Ready in Minutes. All you have to do is melt chocolate, spread it on a pan, and throw some sprinkles on top.
- Easy to Customize. You can change up the candies and colors to match whatever holiday or party you are making it for.
- Bright and Colorful. Using bright colors makes the candies stand out on the white and dark chocolate.
- Fun Easter Treat. Kids of all ages will love finding this pretty chocolate candy in their Easter baskets.
Ingredients Needed
All you need are a two kinds of chocolates and a few bags of pastel candies to make this easy Easter bark recipe.
- Chocolate - Choose a good quality chocolate that is made for melting and/or dipping. We personally love the Ghirardelli melting wafers because they melt and taste great.
- Peppermint Pattie Eggs - Adds a fun chocolate element to the swirls. Another fun option would be to use small chocolate Easter bunnies.
- M&M's - I love using regular M&M's because they are the perfect bite sized candy. But you can use your favorite Easter candy as long as they are small. Some other great ones would be Cadbury mini eggs, Robin eggs, or jelly beans.
- Sprinkles - Any variety or shape of pastel or bright colored sprinkles will look great on this chocolate bark.
BruCrew Tip: Use the leftover M&M's to make a pan of these Easter rice Krispie treats. Or try using Cadbury eggs and add them to these Cadbury cookies.
How to Make Easter Bark
This colorful Easter bark is one of those things that takes very little time, and you can't really mess it up. Three easy steps and you can have a pan of chocolate goodness on your counter too.
- Melt the chocolate. Place the melting wafers in two microwave safe bowls. Heat at 50% power until melted and smooth.
- Spoon onto a tray. Drop alternating spoonfuls of melted chocolate onto a lined baking sheet. Use a knife to gently swirl it together.
- Top with candy and sprinkles. Gently press the chocolate eggs into the melted chocolate, then sprinkle the M&M's and sprinkles around them. Let set, then break into chunks.
Storage Recommendations
On the Counter - Store the chocolate bark in airtight bags or containers at room temperature for up to a week. Make sure it is a cool dry place, so it doesn't melt.
In the Refrigerator - If it is warm where you live, you may want to keep the bark in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep it from getting too soft or melting.
In the Freezer - The Easter bark can be frozen in freezer ziplock bags for 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving. FYI: the colors on the candies may discolor after thawing.
Tips and Tricks
- Line the sheet pan with parchment paper or use a Silpat, so you can easily remove the chocolate bark from the pan.
- Use a good quality chocolate for the best tasting bark.
- Do not over swirl the chocolates or you will end up with "muddy" mess.
- Top with smaller candies that are easy to bite into.
- Look for Easter sprinkles at Walmart, Target, or craft stores.
- Let the chocolate set completely before breaking into chunks. You can speed up the process by refrigerating the pan for 20 minutes.
- Place chunks of the bark in small treat bags with a ribbon and place the sweet treat in Easter baskets.
