Road Trip to Magnolia Market

A few weeks ago, my daughter and I took a road trip to Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas. Actually, it's been more like a month ago. Wow, time sure flies when you are having fun...or when you are busy, huh?

All you Fixer Upper fans know this place well, right? I have watched a few episodes of the show, and I am a big fan of all of Chip and Joanna's work.

So, when my sister and sister-in-law said they were taking a trip out to the market before my sister moved, we decided it was worth the drive to go with them. Man, I just realized that we never took a group photo of all of us there!

Of course, it was over spring break, and I think everyone else had the same idea for some shopping fun. The place was crazy busy! I'm not sure how many buses we saw unloading at the gates as we walked up and waited in line.

The line to get in was insane! We stood in line for about 2 hours just to get to the front door. At least it was a gorgeous day with lots of sunshine and plenty of fun things to look at, and everyone there was so friendly and nice!

How cool are those old silos and the rusted Magnolia sign? I love the look of the rust and the blue skies behind it!

Letting the "Son-Shine" In

How often are you letting the "Son-Shine" in your life?

Do you ever have those days?

The days where things just do not seem to be going right? Maybe a cake flopped? Or overflowed in the oven? A co-worker said or did something that made you angry. Your spouse didn't pick up the slack around the house. You didn't get something done by your deadline. Someone else got a better deal than you did. That list could keep going on and on with all the things that could happen.

I have to be honest...I have those days in my life too!

It's easy to let the things in this life get you down. We can very easily fall into that bad habit of comparing our life to someone else's "perfect" life and wishing we could be more like them or have what they have. [Read more...]

Dark Chocolate Layer Cake

I am officially old. At least that's what our kids keep telling me over and over. I guess I remember thinking my parents were ancient when they were my age.

But honestly, I do not feel my age at all. They say 40 is the new 20, so that must be why I still feel young. Although, I have seen and been around some 20 year olds...and I don't think I want to relive those years again. 20 year olds look and act about 15 some days, so I think I'm going to start saying 40 is the new 30.

Usually by 30 you have settled down and figured out what life is all about and what you want to do with your life. You also usually realize that cake every once in a while is a pretty good thing to enjoy.

White Chocolate Peanut Butter Bark

Last week our kids were on spring break. With my husband just starting his new job a few months ago, we couldn't really go any where this year. Although before we were trying to escape the cold of the midwest, living in TX we don't have to worry about leaving for warmth.

I needed a break from my crazy projects, so my daughter and I took a little road trip over to Fort Worth to see my sister and her little munchkin. Then we headed out to Waco to check out the Magnolia Market and a few shops nearby. Apparently everyone else had the same idea for spring break. It was crazy nuts there! We stood in line for 2 hours just to get in the front door.

It was fun, and we were glad we went and checked it out. Although the little ones weren't as excited about standing in line so long in the hot sun. Thank goodness they had a grassy area with some games and some food trucks to distract kids from how long it actually was.

It's official. Spring is here, and it's time to add lemon to everything. I used to avoid lemon desserts because I wasn't a fan of the tart flavor. Anyone else with me?
