You know it's Halloween season when boxes of Monster Cereal are stacked on the shelves at the store. As a child, I always enjoyed these cereals in the fall.
This year, I used the same cereal to make a frighteningly delicious snack. It's perfect to serve with peanut butter monsters and monster sugar cookies. This mix includes chocolate-covered popcorn, peanuts, candy corn, and Monster cereal.
If you grew up with these iconic cereals, this snack mix will remind you of Saturday morning cartoons and cozy breakfasts.

Key Ingredient List
You can quickly make a batch of Monster Munch with just a few ingredients. So, mix up a bowl of this monstrous delight and prepare to munch, crunch, and howl with delight.
- Popcorn - You can either purchase a bag of pre-popped popcorn or use microwave popcorn to make your snack.
- Monster Cereal - The bright colors add a playful and festive touch to the mix. I love combining Count Chocula, Boo Berry, Franken Berry, and Carmella Creeper to add color and flavor.
- Candy Corn - The iconic Halloween treat adds a pop of color and a sugary sweetness to the mixture.
- Peanuts - Add a great crunch and a nutty flavor to the mix. They complement the sweetness of the chocolate and candy corn, creating a balance that keeps you returning for more.
- Miniature Marshmallows - Bring a soft, gooey texture that perfectly contrasts with the other ingredients' crunch.
- White Chocolate - The smooth, velvety chocolate coats all the ingredients, giving it a great sweet and salty flavor. I like to use Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers because it melts and tastes great. White chocolate chips or white almond bark can also be used.
- Optional Toppings - Holiday sprinkles and edible candy eyes add a fun flair to the easy Halloween treat.
BruCrew Tip: Use extra candy corn and peanuts to make candy corn fudge or candy corn mix.
How to Make Monster Munch
- Pour the popcorn, marshmallows, cereal, peanuts, and candy corn in a large mixing bowl.
- Melt the white chocolate melts in a microwave-safe bowl according to the package directions.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the popcorn mix. Stir the mixture thoroughly until everything is coated. Spread the mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
- Refrigerate the snack mix for 5 minutes. Remove and break the popcorn mix apart into chunks.
Storage Recommendations
Keep the mix in an airtight container at room temperature. It is best if served within 24 hours of making it, but it will keep for 3-4 days.
Tips and Tricks
- Remove un-popped seeds before making the chocolate-covered popcorn. No one wants to bite into a seed and break a tooth!
- Drizzle it with colorful candy melts. Use black, green, or orange candy melts to add color. Melt them in separate bowls, then fill disposable piping bags. Cut the tip of the bag off and drizzle candy melts over the top of the Halloween popcorn mix.
- Add candy. Holiday M&M's or Reese's Pieces are a delicious addition to this Halloween snack.
- Make party favors. Fill cellophane bags with the cereal mixture. Tie with black and white twine and add a cute printable tag to each one.
FAQs
Most grocery stores, plus Walmart and Target, carry this seasonal cereal during the fall months.
Other ingredients such as pretzel sticks, corn puffs, or Chex cereal pair well with this snack mix. When adding other ingredients, reduce the amount of cereal so that the chocolate covers everything.
You can fill a large plastic pumpkin or glass cauldron to serve guests at a party. This makes for a fun and festive way to display your treats.
For serving trick or treaters, fill a clear bag with the popcorn mixture, then tie it closed with ribbons and tags.
