Happy Halloween! The one day a year we let our kids take candy from strangers...in fact, we even let them knock on the strangers doors begging for the candy. Does anyone else find the irony in this holiday? That being said...my kids are going out with us right behind them, watching every move everyone makes. This year we attempted to create their costumes using only what we had on hand. For some reason they are obsessed with the show "My Babysitter is a Vampire", so vampires all around. I'm just glad my son gave up the werewolf costume...I couldn't find anything here in the house to recreate that. Vampires are so much easier to come up with.
[Read more...]These easy Chocolate Mocha Cupcakes are a fun treat to share after a hard day at work or school.
There is a new frosting in town. Frosting made by Cool Whip just has to be good stuff. As soon as I heard about this new frosting, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Thank goodness my local Walmart seems to always have the newest products in a timely fashion. So after school one day, the kids and I stopped to see if we could find it. I wanted to make something to celebrate everyone finishing out the first quarter in school strong. Cupcakes seemed like the obvious choice for dessert...especially because then I could try out the Cool Whip Frosting.
We have been trying to instill some better study habits in our kids this year. Last year they just rushed through homework and studying so they could play or watch t.v. Time to set up some rules. One that they might not like. We decided that there was going to be no t.v. or video games on school nights. And do you know what? So far, everyone is doing very well in school.
I think removing those distractions is paying off for us. We still have to keep after them to study and to write neater, but that is to be expected. My daughter struggles with learning things more than the boys do. We are so proud of her for not complaining when we ask her to study. And we are asking her to study quite a bit more than the boys.

I am declaring today a party day because right now I'm looking for any excuse to eat some more chocolate. This past weekend and the last few days have been just a little stressful for me! Nothing super important, just computer things that make my eyes glaze over. All this coding, blog moving, and learning has taken a toll on my brain!
I am slowly working my way around WordPress. I have figured out enough stuff to get a post up, obviously. Do not ask me anything else, though, because I am so lost at the moment! I am told that after a few weeks, I'll be a pro! Somehow, I am doubting that, since I'm a computer-challenged person! But I'm up for learning it!

I have been looking for some new magnets for the front of our refrigerator. The problem with most of the magnets that I have found is that they are not strong enough. We need magnets that are strong enough to hold school projects, lists, and artwork without sliding down the door.
The other day I was browsing the craft aisles at Walmart, and I came across some fun things in one of the $1 bins.

Do you ever have one of those days? Just kind of an off kind of a day where you have no idea what you did all day.
That was my yesterday. I honestly only did about 2 hours of email catching up and surfing, and then I went for a run.
But what happened to the other 3 hours of my childless day because I'm really not sure where it went.
Part of the day was fighting with caramel and cheesecake cookie bars, and trying to take pictures without it looking like a hot mess.
