These chocolate dipped Butterfinger Cookie Dough Truffles are a sweet treat that will not last long. The bite sized no bake treats are easy to make and totally safe to eat.
One of my guilty pleasures is eating cookie dough. Yes, I realize the danger involved in eating cookie dough made with raw eggs and raw flour. That still hasn't stopped me from digging in with a spoon each time I make a batch of cookies.
The other day I was craving cookie dough so, I decided to make a batch of edible cookie dough to snack on. These little Cookie Dough Truffles are the perfect way to indulge your sweet tooth.
The best part is that you can totally customize the flavors and textures to appeal to everyone's taste buds. Plus, no bake treats are the best when it is too hot to turn on the oven.
The other night I could not fall asleep, and I started thinking about a candy bar cookie dough truffle. Yes, I lay awake thinking of yummy treats to make. Apparently, the sugar side of my brain never sleeps.
I knew I had an extra bag of Butterfinger bars hiding in the pantry, this seemed like an obvious choice to add to cookie dough balls.
Butterfinger candy bars are one of our top 5 favorite candy bars. There is just something about that crunchy chocolate and peanut butter bar that our family adores. They love when I make these Butterfinger Mousse Cheesecakes or this Peanut Butter Butterfinger Pie.
Actually, I think it is because they like to steal the candy bars BEFORE I can make more dessert with them.
I started with an easy no bake cookie dough. It is the same dough that I used for these No Bake Cookie Dough S'mores. It is so easy to customize it, so I hope you are ready for some more truffles.
How to make Butterfinger Cookie Dough Truffles:
- Beat butter and sugar until light and creamy. (full recipe at bottom of post)
- Add vanilla, salt, and milk and beat again.
- Slowly mix in flour until it becomes thick. Add the crushed candy bars and mix again.
- Roll into 36 dough balls and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
- Use a toothpick to dip the cookie dough truffles in melted chocolate.
- Place on a wax paper lined tray, remove toothpick, and add chocolate sprinkles.
Tips for making Cookie Dough Truffles:
- Set the butter out ahead of time. It makes it much easier to beat it into the sugar when it is soft.
- Heat treat the raw flour before adding it to the batter. Spread it out on a tray and bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Cool before using.
- Use different candy bars, nuts, or mini chocolate chips in place of the Butterfinger bars.
- Dip the chocolate balls quickly. The chocolate will start to harden right away because the dough is cold.
- Use white, milk, or dark chocolate to cover the cookie dough truffles. Or skip the chocolate coating and enjoy an edible cookie dough recipe instead.
Is edible cookie dough safe to eat?
As long as your cookie dough is made without eggs and with heat treated flour, it is completely safe to eat. So go ahead and indulge in a few cookie dough bites.
How to heat treat flour:
- Buy - You can buy bags of heat treated flour to use in no bake desserts.
- Oven - Spread the flour on a baking sheet. Heat at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Cool before using.

Can't wait to try these! Butterfingers are my downfall. You asked for an easier way to dip and I hope I can help. I've been "dipping" for many many years and this is my absolute favorite.
Get a couple of floral foam blocks and some lollipop sticks from your local craft store.
Chill your balls first.
Pour your melted coating into narrow/deep coffee cups.
Dip the tip of your lollipop stick into your melted coating and then into your chilled cookie/truffle ball and let it set. It helps keep the ball on the stick. Only takes a few seconds.
Then dip your ball into the melted coating in the coffee cup, tap off extra by using the edge of the coffee cup and then stick it into your floral block. If it is still dripping, you can stick them in at an angle to let the coating fall off the ball.
I always fill up a block and then pop it into the fridge to set.
You can leave them on a stick or remove them. The craft store also sells little clear bags. You can bag each ball on a stick and tie a little ribbon or twist tie and give them away.
It is a lot faster to dip vs. toothpicks and forks.
I reuse my floral blocks over and over.
Good Luck!

You mentioned wanting to know an easier way to dip things in chocolate. Wilton makes a 3-pack of dipping tools, that I've used for years. They don't cost much, and you can find them anywhere that Wilton products are sold. One of the tools can be used to put a swirl on top of the ball after it is placed on parchment paper.

I want to try this recipe, but no where near where I live sells Candiquik. I was wondering if I'd be able to substitute something else like chocolate chips instead, and if so would I use the same amount as the Candiquik sprinkles?
Jocelyn Brubaker
You can use any kind of melting chocolate that you can find like almond bark or Wilton candy melts. You can use chocolate chips too, they will just melt a lot easier in your hands when you are eating them. I would also add a little bit of shortening to the chips when you are melting them, so that the consistency is better for dipping.

Blah. I just got done with a failure batch. The dough tasted fine. But they lost all shape once I dipped them; or rolled them as the toothpick idea ruined their round shape faster than the melted chocolate did. Then they set too fast for me to sprinkle sprinkles on. How in the world did you manage all that? Its my first time messing up anything involving baking or cooking and I don't like it at all.. lol
Jocelyn Brubaker
Did you freeze the dough balls before dipping them? Once they are hard, I used the toothpick to dip them under and tap off. You do need to work fast because the cold cookie dough ball will freeze the melted chocolate pretty quick. I usually dip then sprinkle right away. You can also use a fork if the toothpick doesn't work for you. I am so sad these didn't turn out for you!

I dip my truffles with fondue sticks/skewers. They are sturdy and reliable! I can't wait to try these! So glad I found your website!
Jocelyn Brubaker
Great idea! Thanks Lindsey, very happy to have you here!! ๐

Do you really use all that flour in a no bake cookie, could you substitute powdered sugar, as I don't think raw flour would taste good?
Jocelyn Brubaker
Yes, you use that much flour in these cookies. Believe me, you will not taste it at all. Powdered sugar would make it way too sweet.
Becca @ Crumbs and Chaos
Butterfingers are definitely in my top 5 faves too! These look completely irresistible ๐

I've had this thing ever since I was a little girl (don't ask me why) but I will NOT eat a candy bar that is at room temperature. It HAS to go in the freezer for at least a few days. I just like the way the chocolate and fillings taste. I like biting into a hard candy bar while it slowly warms up. It's just amazing. Which brings me to my point. I've always disliked butterfingers...until a few weeks ago I randomly stuck one in the freezer. I remembered it was there a few days later and let me tell you, it was amazing frozen! Like my new fave frozen candy bar!!! I do like butterfingers in cookies and stuff, so I bet combined with the cookie dough, this would just be AMAZING!!!
Jocelyn Brubaker
I love putting candy bars in the freezer too! The cold candy is esp good on a hot day. I haven't tried it with a Butterfinger yet, but now I'm definitely trying it!! Thanks Chels!!
