Danishes are an easy pastry to make for breakfast or brunch. They look so pretty and fancy on your table, yet they are so simple to make.
Over the years we have made quite a few danish recipes. They are perfect for morning treats or late night snacks.
Some of our favorites are lemon cheese danish, a cherry danish, and this raspberry cheesecake danish. Or think way outside of the box and make this yummy s'mores danish.
Why Make This Recipe
This cream filled blueberry danish is one of the easiest breakfast recipes you can make. Plus, homemade always tastes better than anything you can buy at the store.
Using crescent rolls for the base makes them simple to put together. In less than 30 minutes, you can be enjoying a blueberry danish in your own home. No special equipment or skills needed.
What you will love most about this recipe is how versatile it is. Change out the blueberries for your favorite jam or pie filling and create a new and exciting pastry each time.
This danish recipe is great for holidays, special occasions, and showers, as it will impress everyone. Great for Easter and Mother's day!
Ingredients Needed
You just need 8 simple ingredients to make these pastries, and that includes the sweet vanilla glaze. Scroll to the bottom to find the printable recipe card with instructions.
- Crescent Rolls - I prefer Pillsbury rolls, but any brand can do. Keep them in the fridge until you are ready to assemble the danishes.
- Cheesecake Filling - A mixture of softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract makes a simple cheese filling.
- Blueberry Pie Filling - Keep it simple by using canned pie filling. If you love homemade pie filling try this blueberry pie filling. Feel free to use any flavor fruit filling you like.
- Turbinado Sugar - This is totally optional, but I love the crunch it adds to pastries like apple turnovers.
- Sweet Glaze - Whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth enough to drizzle on each cooled blueberry danish.
How To Make a Blueberry Danish
Here are the simple steps to make this blueberry pastry. The hardest part is waiting for them to cool down enough, so you don't burn your mouth on the hot filling.
- Make the cheese filling. Beat together the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl until creamy.
- Unroll the dough. Open the containers and unroll both dough sheets. Press together any seams if using rolls. Cut each rectangle into 8 squares for a total of 16.
- Add fillings. Spoon the cream cheese mixture evenly on the squares and top with a spoonful of blueberry filling. Fold one corner over the center, then fold the opposite corner on top.
- Bake and glaze. Place the assembled danishes on a baking sheet and sprinkle the dough with turbinado sugar. Bake until golden brown, then let cool before adding a sugar glaze.
Storage Recommendations
These cheese and berry danishes are best served the same day because the pastry will have the best texture.
In the Refrigerator - Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The dough will soften, so they will not be as crisp.
In the Freezer - Place them on a parchment lined tray in the freezer until frozen solid. Wrap each in plastic wrap then place in a freezer safe bag and freeze for 1-2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
To Reheat - Microwave for 10-20 seconds to warm up a single danish.
Tips & Tricks
- Look for the crescent roll sheets at the grocery store, instead of pressing the seams together.
- Try using puff pastry dough for a different taste and texture.
- Soften the cream cheese ahead of time, so it is easier to make the cream cheese filling for the danish.
- Leave the crescent dough in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. It is easiest to work with when it is cold.
- Allow the baked danish to cool to room temperature before adding the sugar topping. If they are still hot, the glaze will melt off.
- Make a batch of homemade pie filling ahead of time. A few of our favorites are apple pie filling, cherry pie filling, and blackberry pie filling.
Recipe FAQs
A danish is some type of pastry dough filled with custard, jam, cheese, fruit, or sweet filling.
Everyone has differing opinions on this. I personally think anything made with a dairy product needs to be kept in the refrigerator.
You can assemble the danishes ahead of time. Then cover and keep them unbaked in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Bake as directed before serving.

I am wondering if you have a blueberry danish recipe that DOESN'T have any type of cheese in it? I don't like cheese of any kind. Thank you 😊
Jocelyn
You should just be able to leave out the cream cheese filling from this recipe. Here is another that does not have any cream cheese in it. I hope you enjoy them! https://insidebrucrewlife.com/homemade-blueberry-lemon-danish/

Tank you for the awesome recipe. Super easy and wonderfully delicious! I couldn't find the white chocolate cream cheese, so I used vanilla bean cream cheese instead. Wonderful!

Dear Jocelyn the baker and blogger,
I do believe you may be my daughter-in-thought; everything you wrote is exactly how I feel about camping (now glamping--oh, yeah! Public restrooms and showers--oh, no!), spiders, flying arachnids (as I think of all flying stingers), etc.
Can hardly wait to try all, or almost all, of these recipes. While I have no living children anymore, my son loved all things "campy," as he put it, especially the (verbatim) "specialist food we can eat." Specialist, in his case, meant "most special"--but he was only eight when he used that one 🙂
Thank you for the terrific recipes that my now-grandmother friends and I can enjoy at the Feast of Tabernacles in October.

To make this healthier......use light cr cheese(not neufetchel). It has 1/2 the fat. Stir in fresh blueberries, & a couple of drops of stevia liquid, lowers the carbs (sugar has high carbs) & fat. Nothing beats fresh blueberries...just sayin'
Jocelyn Brubaker
That is a great way to make it a little bit more healthy. I do love pie filling though 🙂
Michele
Have you tried using blueberry and lemon filling I think I will try that tomorrow for a treat!

I took my boys camping when thy were little as I was a divorced mom and they wanted to go camping. I got a tent from friends of mine and went to the nearest campsite in our town. My boys were 6 and 12 I hate bugs and scared to death of spiders! When it was time to go to sleep I checked the tent and sleeping bags for any kind of bugs. My boys kept telling me it was ok. We finally settle down and I have the flash light in my hand and lit all night. My 6 yr old says... Mommie you can turn the light off I'm not scared. I in return told him.... Oh honey mommie can't I'm on spider alert. Needless to say they have never forgotten that trip and never ask to go again. Lol. Both my boys love the outdoors and do go camping so they were never scarred from it. Now for the recipe. Can't wait to try this. Love that its quick and easy.

Late to the party on this one, but your notes are precious!
Recipe came up on Pillsbury's facebook feed. Will definitely have to try these...and experiment with different fillings....they remind me of Hamentaschen, but with cream cheese and fruit filling instead of plain filling. 🙂
