I love baking cookies during the Christmas season. Every year I make a list of 10 holiday recipes to make for cookie trays or to put in tins for gifts. A few things that make the list every year are mint grinch popcorn, peppermint brownie truffles, Reese's Christmas trees, chocolate chip Christmas cookies, and Christmas blondies.
These cookies with a Hershey kiss on top always make the list too. The fudgy chocolate cookie rolled in sugar always satisfies my sweet tooth.
Top them with mint Hershey kisses, and you have a kiss cookie recipe that is sure to be everyone's favorite.
Why Make Kiss Cookies
- They are fun and easy to make with kids.
- Colorful sprinkles and chocolate kisses make them stand out on cookie trays.
- A chocolate cookie topped with a Hershey's kiss is a chocolate lover's dream.
- Easy to change up for other holidays and occasions.
Ingredients Needed
Grab your basic baking ingredients and your favorite holiday sprinkles to make chocolate kiss cookies for this time of year.
- Butter - Set it out ahead of time, so it is easier to mix the cookie dough.
- Sugars - Both brown sugar and granulated sugar sweeten the cookies.
- Egg & Greek Yogurt - Adds the moisture for the dough.
- Cocoa Powder - I like to use Hershey's dark cocoa powder to give these cookies a dark chocolate flavor. You can also use regular cocoa.
- Flour - Thickens the dough. See how to measure flour correctly, so your cookies turn out right every time.
- Hershey Kisses - This recipe uses the mint truffle kisses. You could change the flavor and use whatever Hershey Kiss you would like.
- Sanding Sugars and Nonpareils - Add some fun color to these chocolate cookies.
How to Make Christmas Kiss Cookies
Get your stand mixer ready because these chocolate mint blossoms are easy to make. I suggest making a double batch because they will disappear quickly.
- Mix the wet ingredients. Place the butter and sugars in a large bowl and beat until creamy. Add egg and yogurt and mix until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until a soft, sticky dough forms. Place the bowl of chocolate cookie dough in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- Roll into balls. Divide the chilled dough into 36 even pieces, and roll the dough into a ball. Roll each one in granulated sugar, Christmas sprinkles, or sanding sugar, then refrigerate another 15 minutes.
- Bake and top. Place 12 balls at a time on a baking sheet and bake. Remove and let the cookies cool on the hot pan for 2 minutes. Place them on a cooling rack, and immediately press a frozen kiss on top.
Storage Recommendations
To Store - Once the cookies are cool and the chocolate kiss is set, place the cookies in an air tight container. They will keep on the counter at room temperature for 4-5 days.
To Freeze - Wrap the cookies individually in plastic wrap or place wax paper between the layers to keep them from sticking together. Place cookies in a freezer bag and freeze for 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.
Tips and Tricks
- Freeze the unwrapped Hershey kisses before you start baking. This will help the kiss keep its shape when you place it on the warm cookies.
- Change up the sprinkle colors to match other holidays and themes.
- You can change up the cookies by rolling them in granulated sugar or colored sanding sugars.
- Use different flavor kisses for the center. Hershey's makes some great flavors that would go great with this chocolate sugar cookie. Some of our favorites are caramel, cherry, hot chocolate, and hugs.
- Do not over bake the cookies or they will be dry. They will be slightly underdone when you take them out, but they will finish baking on the hot cookie sheet.
- Add the Hershey kisses while the cookies are warm on the cookie sheet. This way the chocolate will melt a little and allow them to stick to the cookie when cooled.

These look delish and festive! I just hate it when I do stuff like that because I can't rest or concentrate until I find whatever it is. Makes me crazy but then at least it's an excuse to eat chocolate.

These look so yummy! I am very forgetful too. I think all creative people are. It is because we have so many ideas in our mind that it doesn't leave room for much else! Whenever I have a "blonde" moment, which by the way happens often. My husband always says "well at least you can paint a pretty picture"! Cracks me up everytime!
