I realized this weekend that I missed strawberry season here in Florida. This past weekend I saw an ad pop up on Facebook for a u-pick blueberry farm. So my husband and I headed out Saturday morning to pick berries.

After we got home, I remembered that blueberries usually ripen later than strawberries. I guess I'll have to rely on the grocery store or farmer's market if I want to make more strawberry cheesecake parfaits this month. At least now I know for next year, right?

I'm not used to thinking about berry picking until late May or June because we lived in the midwest for over 16 years. It was always one of my favorite things to do with our kids when they were little. This year, they were not about to get up early to pick berries though.

Neapolitan Popcorn

This past week my sister and her family came to visit us. Unfortunately Florida was broken because most of the week it was cold and rainy. That didn't stop us from having fun though. We went to a few different parks, walked around the marina, fed flamingos, and then headed to the beach on the first warm day.

At night we played card games and just chatted and caught up on life while the kids played and ate popcorn. Our big stand popcorn maker fascinated our niece and nephews. They loved helping my husband make a batch each night. I even raided my blog prop stash and found some fun popcorn boxes for them to eat out of.

One night I added some chocolate and candies to one of the batches of popcorn. I think the adults actually ate most of that one though. The kids still just wanted the plain popcorn with some cheese powder. Fine by me...that just left more of the Neapolitan popcorn for me.

Behind BruCrew Life

The past few weeks we have enjoyed a few new things here in Florida. Here is a fun looking at some behind BruCrew life moments.

Normally the weekends are for sleeping in extra late and working out, but we decided to change things up a little bit and go for coffee and donuts one Saturday morning a few weeks ago.

We heard that Five-O Donuts were a must have, so we had to check them out. The crazy sugar lover in me was in heaven with all the fun toppings and choices that this little donut shop offers.

Trust me, I walked away with a few ideas I want to try out in my kitchen some time. We are looking forward to coming back with my sister and her family when they visit us next week. Yay for more donut goodness!

It's crazy how fast time is going these days. I mean it's the end of February already, and I feel like the new year just started. And it's not just this year that's going by fast. I feel like it was just yesterday that our kids were tiny, and now they are teenagers.

The other day we were driving home from church, and our son started playing one of his very first videos that he made playing computer games online. It took my husband and I a second to realize that it was actually him speaking.

The little voice on the video was so cute and young sounding. Now his voice is much deeper. It was crazy to listen to the younger one and then hear one from recently. Like I said time is flying!!!

I also feel like I just made these fun Shamrock Shake Sugar Cookie Bars, but that was a year ago too. Where has the time gone?

Our kids love the instant cinnamon apple oatmeal packets. Well, they go in spurts with eating it. One month they will eat the entire box in a week or two, then I buy more and they don't touch it.

I should know by now that if they love it this month, that means they don't want it next month. It must be time to make another batch of double chocolate banana muffins. At least that's one breakfast that they never pass up.

I don't mind a bowl of warm oatmeal for breakfast, but if I'm being honest I prefer to eat mine baked. There is something so satisfy and delicious about an oatmeal square drowning in milk and honey.

Yes, I said drowning. I love to put some milk in the bottom of my bowl and drizzle honey over the top of the warm oatmeal square.

This month we have had quite a few people visiting us, so we have gone out to eat more times than normal. Then the pancakes, burgers, nachos, and tacos all sounded so much better. My jeans let me know that they were not very happy with me after all that glorious food.

I guess I need to really work on my self-control issues when it comes to eating out. Most places have delicious healthy options. I just need to stay strong. Most of the time anyway. I'm all for splurging on calories once in a while. [Read more...]

Behind BruCrew Life

Hey, guys! I thought it would be fun to get back to sharing all the extra pictures and activities behind BruCrew Life. I used to do this behind the scenes look and a top ten post more regularly. For some reason it just kind of slowed down to a few times a year.

But this week I had the urge to get back to some of the things that I used to share before doing recipes full time. It's a fun way to just show some of the randomness of life that happens in our house and how normal we are. Or maybe how abnormal we are. LOL!

Last month the kids were out of school for MLK day, so we headed to Universal for some rides and Butter Beer. Islands of Adventure is so pretty at night.

The kids decided that since the line for the Jurassic water ride was only 5 minutes that they wanted to go on it. It was like 57 degrees that evening, but that didn't stop them from going down 5 times in a row. The first few times they just got a few drips, but by the last ride they were soaked. Crazies!
