Mocha Pumpkin Spice Cookies

Mocha Pumpkin Spice Cookies with sprinkles are a fun cookie to share with your friends and family.  They are the perfect party treat too.

Mocha Pumpkin Spice Cookies - dark chocolate and pumpkin spice kisses make these cookies completely irresistible

I am getting myself ready to bake lots and lots of cookies this year.  Do I need them?  Does anyone want them?  That’s probably a no to both questions, but it still isn’t going to stop me from making tons of cookies.  I’m sure I can find someone to help me eat them all.

This year I was excited to buy the Pumpkin Spice kisses again.  I bought a bag of them right away, but then the bag just sat there in the cupboard.  Unopened.  Lonely.  There was no way I could open the bag for just one kiss…I have self control issues, and those kisses would have been gone.  Not to mention that my family sees an open bag of candy, they think it is fair game.  Lately some of the unopened bags have been opened mysteriously!

Maybe it’s time to find a new hiding place.   [Read more...]

Ok, so one day later after telling you I was over pumpkin, and here I am posting…yup, pumpkin.

Go ahead and tell me how wishy washy I am.  I can handle it.  For the record I made this last week, or maybe it was the week before that.  It was definitely before I started to feel iffy on pumpkin.

Anyway, I was looking through pictures and realized that Halloween is next week, so if I want to share this fun Halloween themed eclair cake, it had to be now.  So pumpkin it is!   Not that I don’t like pumpkin.  Maybe it’s because the weather dropped from sunny and warm to sunny and down right cold but now all I can totally think about is mint.  And chocolate.

But I always think about chocolate, so that’s nothing new.

Pumpkin Cookies and Cream Fudge - an easy pumpkin pudding fudge filled with chunks of cream filled cookies
I have jumped back on the fudge making train.  For a little while I was trying to make a new flavor every month, but I slacked off through the summer.  But recently I got the fudge urge again, and now I can’t stop thinking of fun flavors to make.

I think fudge all year round sounds so much better than fudge at the holidays.  Every single time we visit any fairs or markets, I have to check out the fudge booths.  You never know what fun flavors you might find.     [Read more...]

Peanut Butter Candy Corn Blonde Brownies

Peanut Butter Candy Corn Blonde Brownies - peanuts, candy corn, and Reese's pieces inside a peanut butter blonde brownie

Dear Bowl of Fall Goodness,
Why must you be so stinking good together?  I thought I could resist the temptation of mixing candy corn, peanuts, and Reese’s pieces.  That was just silly.  Now that the bowl is empty, all I can think about is going to the store for more ingredients for this life changing snack mix.  I’ll definitely never stop craving this.  I guess that means I need to stock up on bags of candy corn while it’s still available.

Dear Lunch Box,
Can you please remind my children to empty you each and every day?  I’m sure you don’t like being full of smelly containers all weekend long.  I know my nose would appreciate the extra help.  Soup containers that have been sitting for three days do not smell good at all.

Dear Teenage Driver,
I know you are so cool now that you can drive, but can I offer one small piece of advice?  If you leave the mall and get into your vehicle, please leave the parking spot, especially if you see a black mini van waiting for your up close parking spot.  Do not sit there texting and laughing.  And please do not wait until the said black van gives up and drives to the back of the parking lot.  The right thing to do is leave asap so others can utilize those close spots.

Love, The Mom Driver who really wanted your close parking spot (yes, I’m lazy)

Peanut Butter Candy Corn Blonde Brownies - peanuts, candy corn, and Reese's pieces inside a peanut butter blonde brownie

Dear BruCrew Readers,
Please, please, please do yourself a favor and buy some candy corn, peanuts, and Reese’s pieces today. I know my first letter said this was a dangerous mix and that is was addicting.  Go ahead and forget about that…you will definitely thank me after you try it.  Your pants might hate me, but I can live with that.   To help you out a little, I have a blonde brownie recipe that uses up the rest of the snack mix.  Yes, it is just as dangerous to eat, but let’s live on the edge a little.  These peanut butter blonde brownies have so much texture from the snack mix and have such a delicious peanut butter flavor, that you just can’t stop munching.  The candy corn gives the perfect amount of chew in each bite too.  You are going to love them…promise.

Love, The Baker Chick who just realized how long its been since posting a Blonde Brownie.

So the other day I had my little photo “studio” set up right by my front window.  This window is right next to the front door with our mailbox right outside that.  It was probably noonish (maybe later), and I was sitting on the floor taking pictures of some sort of sugar food.  Now if I was a morning person who liked to be up and ready to tackle the day, this wouldn’t be anything to talk about.  But…I was still in my pj’s and my hair was in a ponytail.

Yeah, I was looking like your stereotypical housewife.  The pony tail was pretty messy with no cute headband to be found.  Down right frump city going on I tell you!  Gotta love working from home!  It has its perks!  Although my hubby laughs at me every day when he comes home for lunch. A few weeks ago when I was in New Jersey at the Duncan Hines test kitchen, one of our discussions was on food that was trending.   Flavored popcorn was one of these food items on the list.

Can I tell you just how happy that makes me?

I have been doing different kinds ever since I made this Reese’s Popcorn, and I haven’t stopped since.    I like to think I was ahead of this popcorn trend.  Shhhh!  Don’t tell me any different…just let me stay in this happy bubble.   [Read more...]

This weekend I realized that I am getting old.  My youngest turned 10.  Seriously!  How did that happen?

I feel like I just came home from the hospital with that 5 pound little boy.  My husband and I were laughing that when he was 5 pounds, he was just skin and bones, and here 10 years later he is still just skin and bones.  At 10 years old, he still only weighs like 60 pounds.  That is probably embellishing it some too.   He is my little love bug and I am enjoying every single snuggle and kiss before he becomes that aloof teenager who thinks his mom isn’t cool anymore.  Yup, I’ve got one of those too.   [Read more...]

Coffee Cheesecake Oreo Brownies

I am declaring today a party day!!  Any excuse to eat some more chocolate right?  This past weekend and the last few days have been just a little stressful for me!  Nothing super important, just computer things that make my eyes glaze over.  All this coding and blog moving and learning has taken a toll on my brain!!!  I am now officially all moved over to WordPress…what do you think of the new site?  Mad props to my blog designer for totally making my blog say, Hello, I’m Jocelyn:-)  I absolutely love it!!!  She is incredible, and I can’t sing her praises enough.  Do you need design work done?  Totally contact her!

I am slowly working my way around WordPress…I have figured out enough stuff to get a post up obviously.  Do not ask me anything else though, because I am so lost at the moment:-)  I am told after a few weeks, I’ll be a pro!  Somehow I am doubting that, since I’m quite the computer challenged person!  But I’m up for learning it.  Thank goodness for Dorothy holding my hand and walking me through stuff step by step as I wrote this post.

Monster Mix Popcorn Munch

One of my favorite things to make is chocolate covered popcorn.
It is such a blank canvas for so many different variations!

Every fall I buy the three seasonal cereals Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Franken Berry.
And every fall they sit there, because for some reason ours kids will only eat one bowl.
It’s marshmallow cereal…why don’t they eat more of it?
I remember as a kid eating this cereal and loving it.

Chocolate Pumpkin Spider Donuts

A couple years ago I decided that I was going to boycott dusting.

I was putting out my Halloween decorations…things like skeleton bones, spiders, and gravestones.
They kind of looked out of place on nice bright clean shelves.
Last year I added some rats.

Let’s face it…bones and rats look much better with a layer of dust surrounding them.
